hey, i'm not a fruity loops user so i have no idea what its capacities 
are.. but the problem you describe is exactly why people use multi-band 
compression. you want to want to compress the bass frequecies under ~250hz. 
i don't know if fruity allows for direct x plugins; that would allow you to 
compress the track in real time allowing you to continue tweaking. check 
out the izotope ozone plugin - it's a brilliant mastering utility, but can 
presumably be used during playback.
