Any good computer UPS(battery) should have a ground fault indicator LED on the back of it...almost every APC/TrippLite ups does....or any good power stip has the same thing like my favorite, the TrippLite Super7....when you don't have ground, the led turns on....
You can also go to any hardware store and pick up an outlet tester for like 5 bucks: http://www.mobilehomedoctor.com/electric1.htm (images.google.com is the shit!): as for equipment, I use TrippLite Isobar powerstips (isolated transformers to clean the power I only have enough to use on my really $$$ gear) that feed off of 2 big ups's which feed off the equilavent of a rack mount Furman line conditioner and then to the wall to power everything in the panther studio.....a little overkill, but it eliminates one more worry about the overall quality of my studio rig. peace -LOS ----- Original Message ----- From: "part.muted" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2001 9:02 PM Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: ground vs. ungrounded power? > How can you tell if your power supply is grounded or grounded...? > > Also, what equipment (protectors and such) should be used to prevent this > from happening...? > > Peace // D > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "PANTHER" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2002 1:53 AM > Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: ground vs. ungrounded power? > > > > Holy crud yes there is a risk of wrecking your equipment if you get one > bad > > power surge/pop that gets through your lineconditioner and has no where to > > go (b/c ground is absent) but out through your gear (it's worse if you > only > > use surgeprotectors, -everything- in our studio runs off lineconditioned > > ups'd power, (IT guy talking here))....never have computers or anything > like > > like that ungrounded....it'll work fine, but it's only a matter of time > > before your rig gets popped... > > > > maybe try to find a socket in another room and use an extension cord? > > > > peace > > -LOS > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "alpher" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Sent: Monday, January 28, 2002 8:25 PM > > Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: ground vs. ungrounded power? > > > > > > > If some of your equipment requires a ground then there may be a risk of > > > electrocution if it is not grounded and there is a malfunction. > > > > > > al > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > > From: Trust [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > > Sent: 29 January 2002 03:57 > > > To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List > > > Subject: [dnb-prod] ground vs. ungrounded power? > > > > > > X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2615.200 > > > > > > Do to an abrupt changing in living situation i am being forced to > > > temporarily set up my studio in a room that has no grounded (3 prong) > > > electrical outlets.
