Yeah, I think you're probably right... I was lucky when I set my Mackies up coz they 
just sounded right straight away.. Didn't really need to fiddle around with the 
placement too much... I'll forward your mail to him and make sure he's checked the + 
and - connections!!! (I hope he has!)...

Sounds like it's wired 'out-of-phase' at your mates studio?

Check the wiring and make sure all the 'plus' and 'minus' (or red +
black, whatever) connections match. If you connect a 'plus' to a
'minus' you may experience problems as described.

Also, position the speakers at a slight angle, so they do not sit
head-on to the rear wall. This can cause the soundwave to bounce back
and cancel out certain frequencies.
