I gotta say that the sound they're getting is EQ-wise fairly similar to my Mackies... 
And I also gotta say that while I agree that the Tannoys aren't fantastic they aren't 
THAT bad either.. As someone else has pointed out, enough names use them (I must admit 
I don't know why though!).. 

I spoke to my mates yesterday, they reckon they've sorted the problems they had just 
by moving the monitors to different positions)... 

Each to his own I guess...

The tannoy's are shit mate. Don't bother to get them. The sound that comes 
out of them is not a true image of the sound going into them.
I've now got some Genelec's and they're wicked.  Mackie,Dynaudio,Genelecs 
are your safe bet for monitors as they're all accurate.
You're friends will have problems with there mixdowns cos they Tannoys are 

just wank.
