I don't knwo if someone's already said this, but here goes:

Soundcards that can play and record simultaneously are called "full duplex" 
cards. Most of the higer end cards are full duplex, such as the Echo Laya 
(an Event product) and many others.

Depending on your setup, it might be best just to save up for a duplex card, 
since you will gain other things when you buy it. (More outputs, prolly 
support for more bit depth and higher smaple frequencies).

I'm considering selleing my DAT since I hardly ever use it anywmore - i 
record straight to my PC using Cubase.

Also, if you're looking to get your finished tracks "fatter" consider 
compressing them. The Waves software is great for mastering compression. 
Also, you could use an aural exciter on the whole track for added 
"crispness" but don't go too crazy with it.
