I've been running the original release of WinXP Pro for months now with no problems...
Once I got all the drivers to the correct version my machine became both the fastest and most stable one I've ever used... (Having said that though, my mum's machine is running mostly similar hardware and has caused her nothing but problems..) My personal opinion is that if you persist with XP and don't happen to have any hardware that it doesn't support (and know how to configure it for DAW use) it's by far the best Windows version to use.. Nick. p.s. You can easily turn off the cutesy GUI with one switch on the taskbar menu... -----Original Message----- From: Vince [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 12 April 2002 08:38 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Soundcard Choice, WinXP? , midi controller? I've just started getting into producing, and I quickly realized my meazly computer won't handle it. So I invested in a new machine, and I think I've made wise choices so far. Now it's time to choose a soundcard. I live in Canada, so keep in mind not everything is available to me. What is available though, is the midiman audiophile 24/96. I've loosely decided this is the card I want. Is it a good choice? I think I'm going to have a computer-based studio as much as possible. The only other thing I might do is record live vocals. If it matters, I'm running a P4 2Ghz / 512 mg ram on win 2000. On another note, I've been warned to avoid winXP because of stability issues, so I followed that warning. There's nothing I hate more than stability issues. If I could afford a mac I'd get one, but I got my PC at cost so it was hard to resist. Are there any advantages to winXP that I'll be missing out on? I'd like to know because I'd rather make the swap now then later. Now, will I need a midi controller keyboard? What exactly will it do for me? I've been told I'm going to need one, but I'm not clear on why. (obviously I'm new at this). Is a cheap one ok? any recommendations?
