I think this is the way things -should- be, but with a few exceptions
aren't... the cruel truth is that although a lot of labels would like to
hone an unsigned producers talents, they just don't have the time nor money
to wait for someone to finish a tune to a decent releasable standard (I'm
talkin about production/engineering wise, not musically). It's a harsh
reality but if you want to get a tune released you need to demonstate to the
label that you can produce a tune that is not only good but also 'sounds'
good. 

I might be wrong about all this but with our last few tunes doing reasonably
well and getting some favourable attention from some labels and artists this
is the thing that I'm starting to notice. Also, a lot of unsigned dubs get
passed around on aim or whatever to DJs and label owners cos they like to
play em out at their local night or put em on online mixes... end result?
you're far more likely to get a release if it already 'sounds' like a
release.

But surely if your sending demo's out - you are looking to get them signed
/ released ?

In my experience with labels they are not initially worried if the tune
sounds as loud as a dillinja track. The attributes of a good track stem far
beyond the initial production. If they see potential in the tune they will
take it and ask you to remix it down prior to mastering.

Im not for one minute suggesting that production aint important but I think
sometimes people overlook the content and structure of a tune.

I've been a member of this list since I started producing 4 years ago and
recently the talk has been all about <20khz >50khz etc etc. And I have to
hold my hands up  and say that most of the time I dont know what your going
on aobut !! :-)

Whats my point here  . . . hmm I dont know really ! Just a rant, make of it
what u will  ;-)
