Two things to check, 1 is dnews overloaded, the best indication of this is
tellnews stats
if the busy figure is above 90% then it may be over loaded or need tuning.
Very likely upgrading to 5.5b3 and adding
thread_in true
will significantly help.
Second, use the cidera monitor port to check if your cidera box is throwing
away items.
Feel free to send us some figures from tellnews stats, tellnews stats_in
etc and we may
be able to make tuning suggestions.

That is normal, the expire process doesn't delete files (since piles were
introduced) it corrects
index entries the actual bucket deletion occurs all day long.
