a) You didn't actually calculate the cost of the recursive solution, you simply 
pulled a large number of servers needed out of thin air.

b) You didn't say why would need any fewer authoritative servers to get the 
same benefit.

The amount of benefit of either solution is being debated. However, I am not 
sure you can show any greater benefit to an end user of getting a validated 
answer for a root query with the AA bit set on vs. off.

I am not. (But I won't claim that you "should be able to reason" your way to 
the opposite conclusion.) You postulated a larger number of unskilled operators 
without any justification for the recursive servers.

If the goal is to get the correct answers for root queries closer to more 
users, both proposals do that.
