Sure, that's fine. I actually like Allan's example. It seemed to fit the design of the page well. Nice to see examples of both, I suppose.
I'm still concerned with how Netscape makes text input fields so wide. If you look at the image I attached (ns-search-side.png) at the very bottom you can see just the top of the search box, and you can see how it's much wider than the side bar it's suppose to fit inside of.
We should make sure that can be fixed before investing too time placing the search on the left.

One of the solutions is to make the input size smaller. what would be the acceptable size?
currently it's 15 and won't fit into the left bar. See the attachment.
