Per the other message I answered (that you posted only
moments before this one), the voltage regulation is controlled
by the computer.

What are the codes you get from the CEL? The voltage could
be fluctuating if the engine is stumbling (misfiring) and the
alternator is spinning up/down at constantly changing speeds
due to the rotation of its pulley with the serpentine belt (spun
via the crankshaft). Misfiring will cause fluctuations. The key
is to find out why it is misfiring first, then see if you still
have the issue of voltage problems. By how much is the voltage
fluctuating?

Cheers.

Subject: [dodge_intrepid] Does 95 Intrepid need another computer?

I have 180K on my 95 intrepid.
I still takes off flying from a dead heat.
I think the little 3.3 has some low gearing.

I had my computer switched out after my low beams burned out and an
alternator switched did not stop a voltage regulator problem. Dealer
cost was $200 for the remanufactured computer Oct 2003. I solved all
my electrical problems.

Now today it started running erratic.
The autozone guys tested the battery and alternator. He said the
voltage regulator was "fluctuating" thus the regulator was bad and I
should change the alternator. I didnt remember that when i switched
alternator two years ago....that did nothing...

well I switched the alternator and it still runs erratic!

As the engine warms...the tach starts fluctuating.then the engine
runs more erratic until the engine light comes on...the cruise light
flashes....and if i am driving it starts bucking..the engine cutting
off temporarily..and it dies...

Dont tell me the voltage regulator circuit in the computer is fried!

Did this unit only last two years? I dont even know how the switch
one out.....

Thanks guys
Steve in Austin.
