Hey folks.

The old 1996 Trep has starting issues when it gets ReallyFrigginCold and
so I decided that, this year, I wasn't going to mess with it.

I went to Advance Auto and had them look up lower rad heaters, because I
heard they were easiest to install. Didn't have any, but they did have
an external tank heater for the Trep and some freeze plug heaters.

I bought the external tank heater because I've only dealt with freeze
plugs a few times on friends' projects and the experiences were
unexciting in the least.

I contacted a local, trusted mechanic about putting it in, but he had
doubts as to whether or not it would work. He said that on many modern
cars, there are "valves" in the heater lines that shut off when the car
is off, preventing ambient flow of coolant, thus a tank heater won't
work -- it'll just heat up the fluid in the hoses and shut off because
nothing will flow.

Has anyone here installed an external tank heater, lower rad hose
heater, or freeze plug heater? Or oil pan heater? If so, which did you
install, brand, where'd you get it, and how hard was it?

Looking for a good solution to keeping the car warm and running...

Nathan
