I have a 3.5L 96 ES and last year it started to cause problems when
cold starting, at minus 5 C or colder. The colder the worse it was.
The only way to start it was to crank the hell out of it with the
accelerator matted. I have since then used the dealer installed block
heater and there is no problem. I am sure it is a senser that reads
the coolant temp and adjustst the choke (or doesn't as seems to be the
case. There is no problem when warm. Maybe next year I will take it
in. We have had a warm winter her in Alberta so it hasn't been a real
problem. I asked the dealer to look at it but he said that i would
need to leave it overnight on a cold night for them to see what the
problem is. I will do it one day.

Let me know what you find out.

Jim
