Okay. Look like we need to talk.

Sounds like some of you are not aware of something
here. And forgive me for not knowing all that much
either, but my understanding is this:

In the first year or two of this engine's use, 1998
and 1999, an oil sludge issue became a problem.
Something about the oil pump, oil pan.... oil
something... which caused increased buildup of gritty,
gunky residue to foul, or plug, the lubrication
system.

This resulted in diminished oil pressure. Eventually
piston rod bearings failed. These are not actually
bearings, but sleeves, or bushings, which connect the
lower end of the piston rod to the crankshaft, and
allow it to rotate smoothly.

Perhaps there are others in this group who better
understand the reasons for engine failure. I don't
claim to understand all the reasons. However, I have
spoken with dozens of car guys and car salesmen who
don't know sh... BEANS about it. They just ramble on
in general terms, as if the 2.7 is the worst thing
that ever happened to the auto industry. (They have
all forgotten the fiasco within GM back in the 1980s
when you simply could NOT buy a used GM car which had
not had its series 350 auto transmission replaced. Now
THAT was a world class automotive failure if there
ever was one.)

But back to the issue. The advice I've been given from
a reliable source, is to simply have your oil changed
at 3,000 miles or so. There is no correlation to any
other thing. Period. Canadian engines are the same as
American ones. Engines built on Monday have no more
problems than the ones built on Thursday. If you have
a newer version, you're worrying unnecessarily. If you
have an earlier version, remember the oil change rule.

That's all I know.
