If you are talking about my car.... My light came on....and I had nothing on the stick and took it to the dealer and they said I needed a new oil sending unit Get it and gooooooooo now some some 4000 miles later the oil light was on...I checked the oil and there was NOTHING on the stick. I put 4 qts in it THEN showed on the stick and the light went out.
BUT on my way up there a few days and maybe 100 miles later the darn light came on again. WHEN I got there they checked the stick and nothing was there....BUT they discovered it to be over the limit. They also told me the connectors on the oil sending unit was loose and they tightened them. Everyone has told me that is BULL and this is all on paper they gave me. So if this goes to Michigan that is ok. Now here is the thing. He told me to bring it back at 500 miles and again at 500 miles to run a test and see where the oil was going. So at 500 I take it back....he says I have not used a drop good.... now I take it back last week for the second test.... I go with the guy as he heads out to the parking lot this time and does NOT pull my car in the bay. He just checks the oil on the stick and says that is all they done before. I am a tad bit low but by standards but that is FINE!!!! I tell him I want to know how there was a all that oil that was not on the stick........ he says he has no idea and no one is here to ask what made then say that. BUT he is pretty sure from looking at my records that when I came in with the light on and oil gone all those miles after the oil sending unit got replaced and the connectors not tightened THAT was my problem. To just keep checking my fluids. I told him I wanted to know where all the oil went and why...was there another problem. BUT to answer my ? he just rudely assured me he was pretty sure the oil went from the non connected connectors. I am so darn lost and confused. Remember this car had 60,000 at the time this crap all started. I am now at like 68,000. I don;t know if they are jerking me around or what. I am confused!!!! Can I loose a bunch of oil from connectors not being tight????? ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2007 11:26 AM Subject: [dodge_intrepid] Re: 2.7 vs. 3.3 It is strange that after five quarts of oil are poured into the engine, and still nothing shows on the dipstick. It sounds as if it is the wrong stick as the other guy mentioned. But then, they could have some kid in the shop that doesn't know what the heck he is doing. Unfortunately I just sold my last Intrepid so I cannot go out and measure how long mine is, but someone else here should be able to do that for you. *A LITTLE HELP HERE!* I miss that car horribly already. Continue changing oil at 3000 mile intervals just like anything else. If you're pressed for time and can't get to it until 3500 miles, it is NO big deal. I do it at about 4500 mile intervals and I change the filter every time. I drive a zillion miles regularly though. But yes, the oil level needs to be checked. Remember that this car is coming up on 7 years old (it was probably was built in the year 2000) and the valve seals just don't seal so well anymore. I don't care if it is a Honda, Toyota, Dodge, etc you have to watch your oil. The newer the car, the less likely it is to consume oil but it is not a guarantee. Oil is the blood of any engine. If my body lost substancial blood in some kind of accident, and it didn't get replenished automatically, I would encounter serious problems as a result. Its also a plus that blood is auto-cleansing. Engine oil is not. In my opinion, engines today are built just so darn good that they are very resilient to lack of maintenance. Heck, they don't need ANYTHING other than oil changes done to them for 100,000 miles or more. Back in the 1970's, such a concept was ludicris. I'll bet this '01 Intrepid hasn't needed any kind of special service done to it since it was new other than the oil pressure sensor thing. Maybe tires, brakes, oil changes, a new serpentine belt, (just normal wear and tear items). It'll probably need inner tie rod bushings soon, but those are cheap and easy. Get this oil checking issue figured out, keep tabs on the oil and coolant levels, checking them twice a month or so. Have the shop replace the "PCV hose" which is probably heavily deteriorated by now since they always do and you should be good to go.
