Let me add something to the advice already given below: Short trips? Well, I drive to work every morning. It takes me 30 minutes. That's not a short trip. Trouble is, it IS a SLOW trip. I rarely exceed 40 mph, and my engine RPM stays low. By about Wednesday of every week, I'm ready to do some real driving, so I head out of town. Get my speed up, my RPM up, and let the car run. Once I'm out of traffic I get my foot in it, and feel the power. Racing from one red light to another (my pet peeve if you're one of those people) isn't enough to prevent sludge buildup. And that's true for any car with any engine. -Craig
