The first thing that popped into my head was a faulty ignition switch.

Spray WD-40 into the switch, rotate the inserted key several times through it's 
travel, back and forth, repeat the WD-40 and key rotation. Hopefully this will 
clean the contacts.

I'm not familiar with the '97, or what you'll need to do to access the ignition 
switch. I don't even know where the switch is located on your car.....somewhere 
on the steering column.

I have a 1997 3.5L dodge intrepid; Im getting no spark to the cycls. Im getting 
fuel; some times it will start  but most ofthe time it won't, does anyone in 
this group haveany ideas?
