EJ,

I work with an electrical engineer, and he has confirmed to me (on more than
one occasion) that there should be no concern with WD-40 causing an electrical
short.

Just a note of concern.
The WD-40 may leave a conducting residual.
That residual may cause a potential electrical short.
CRC makes a aerosal contact cleaner that has an evaporating effect.
It may be worthwhile prior to any solvent application to explore the best
for the situation.
Just my opinion.

In addition the following may provide some useful guidelines:

All the best.

Wayne,

The first thing that popped into my head was a faulty ignition switch.

Spray WD-40 into the switch, rotate the inserted key several times through
it's travel, back and forth, repeat the WD-40 and key rotation. Hopefully
this will clean the contacts.

I'm not familiar with the '97, or what you'll need to do to access the
ignition switch. I don't even know where the switch is located on your
car.....somewhere on the steering column.

Good luck,
Jay
