G'day all, A while back I recorded the sound of detonation and put it up on Nigel's web site: http://www.limbachaustralia.com/downloads-useful-information/
You need to listen to it on a good computer sound system. It is the “rattling” type sound behind the main engine noise and it is quite subtle. A lot of people think that detonation is loud and obvious but that is normally the case just before your engine self destructs. As you engine starts detonating the RPM drops. Often the detonation will then stop and the RPM will come back up again. Of course high loads and high RPMs are the prime time. Stale fuel, particularly combined with high CHTs are the major culprits so it tends to go away when you add fresh fuel to your tank. regards Rob Rob Thompson 0429 493 828
