Hi Rob and all,
For your info, Ex VH-GNW (now ZK-GCD) has the structural work completed and the long drag of sanding sanding and more sanding is underway. The structural integrity of the H36 relating to the level of repair required is actually impressive, plus impressive GNW held together for so long. However my question is … Ever since our ZK-GCB flew (now coming up 600 hrs in NZ) there is always some oil to wipe off inside the engine bay. I think perhaps the way I have the breather exit set up and getting a little blow back inside the cowl. Not a lot and no added oil between oil changes but a bit frustrating Has anybody installed an oil separator to prevent this? And if so where was it mounted and what type. I am also currently having some difficulty dealing with Hoffmann propellors. And may have to have a go at applying to the NZ CAA for some kind of “alternative method of Compliance” so the props can be operated temporarily “on Condition” until Hoffmann get their act together. I would be interested in any comments in that regard. They have been quite anal about their 6 year (+1 max to coincide with the next inspection) life but seem to have a problem carrying out any service work. I threw the plane around a fair bit including some hard yawing and it stayed true. My phone is a nearly 5 year old Samsung Galaxy S9+ which has a gyro and accelerometer.
