Actually, the email delivery mechanism is all I am really concerned

My email was premature, based on the misunderstanding that this would be
lost in the transition.
Web-Forum-to-email gateways never work. Or I should say, they never work
*two-way* if you're on the email-side. You get a notice email about every
new post, but you can't reply by hitting reply -- you have to click
through, log in (hope the login redirects you to the message you tried to
click through to), *then* hit reply and, if you can still remember what you
were going to say, say it. It will be read out of context anyway (by
everyone else on the email end) because all semblance of threading is lost
in the translation. Typically the full messages are not in the email, but
truncated at some max-length, forcing those of us trying to play along at
home to, once again, click through, log in, hope and then find the part of
the message you didn't already read to read the rest of it.
Every mailing list I've been on that has "gone web" like this (all, without
exception, have been corporate customer forums, with communities of
customers who have no say when the transition to web is ordered from on
high) has ceased to be a mailing list, and the customer community that used
exist on the list has evaporated, taking most of the good will toward the
company with it.
But hey, someone's been ordered to "foster the community" and its their job
to appear to do something -- no need to concern yourself with the fact that
this 10 year old mailing list community is being disbanded, instead.
Just get me those TPS report on the double, soldier!
