Title: RE: A different trivia...
Absolutely. I'm always amazed how his creations in it self were melodies within the song structure. His work went way beyond lending itself, if you will, to the music. No wonder he has been a major force in the studio for other performers. Ever listen to his work with Donna Summer? The solo to Hot Stuff is just that. I wonder whatever happened to his own solo project? Anyone?

Seems like the Skunk did everything in Doobie tunes except play the standard tunes themselves. He was always coming in with some Broadway jingle in the middle of Black Water, and he and the band even broke into Reelin' In The Years during, of all things, Don't Start Me To Talkin' during the 77 tour. The Skunk used to take his solos into completely different keys, too. He'd take a standard break and play, like 4 or 5 steps removed, and somehow, it would sound really cool. To me, Skunk was like a firecracker that was ready to blow; he was as unpredictable a force in the Doobs as they've ever seen.

That's right!! Also in the live from London broadcast the entire band breaks into The Charleston prior to the a cappella during BW.

You're right Steve,

I also remember Skunk doing "Dixieland" inside Black Water. I've got a
recording of that version live in Memphis, with the Memphis Horns.
