$30 seems cheap for the amount of work that looks involved: http://hackaday.com/2015/04/09/using-lvds-laptop-displays/
I've thought of the same thing before, but never pursued trying just because I knew it was a ton of work. My assumption was that for every type of screen, it would be just as much work... but maybe after the first time you do it, it would get easier? I guess you'd at least have the LVDS interface knowledge. Here's a rasPI forum post that talks about doing this... the dropbox link still works, and there may be more info on the following forum pages (I didn't check): https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=9982#p161665 On Mon, Apr 20, 2015 at 4:51 PM, free cycle <[email protected]> wrote: > > I have a salvaged laptop LCD screen that I would like to use as a monitor > for a Raspberry Pi display. > > The model number on the back of the LCD screen is B154EW02 > I found some controllers on eBay that claim to work with this LCD screen > model number, > for example, I found this one for $29.99: HDMI Controlle Driver Board For > B154EW01 B154EW02 B154EW0 1280x800 14.1INCH LCD > <http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Controlle-Driver-Board-For-B154EW01-B154EW02-B154EW0-1280x800-14-1INCH-LCD-/111630030483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fdab1693> > > > [image: image] > <http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Controlle-Driver-Board-For-B154EW01-B154EW02-B154EW0-1280x800-14-1INCH-LCD-/111630030483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fdab1693> > > > > > > HDMI Controlle Driver Board For B154EW01 B154EW02... > <http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Controlle-Driver-Board-For-B154EW01-B154EW02-B154EW0-1280x800-14-1INCH-LCD-/111630030483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fdab1693> > US $29.99 New other (see details) in Business & Industrial, Electrical & > Test Equipment, Electronic Components > View on www.ebay.com > <http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Controlle-Driver-Board-For-B154EW01-B154EW02-B154EW0-1280x800-14-1INCH-LCD-/111630030483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fdab1693> > Preview by Yahoo > > > I think this controller board would work but I don't need the DVI or VGA > inputs and I'd like to find a smaller/cheaper HDMI-only controller if > possible. > > Does anyone had any experience with re-purposing a laptop LCD screen as a > monitor? > If so, what controller did you use?
