I picked up one of those China-made 7-inch LCD panels that are sold with an
accompanying controller. It cost about $25 for everything except the case
and power supply systems. I built a case for it and it works great. I like
that I can power it up with batteries so I can use it for all sorts of
testing scenarios where I need a computer display but don't have a power
supply handy. I can even fit the batteries inside the case. It takes 12V
and 2A so it is easy to get an AC power adapter for it. I'm trying to hook
it up to my Arduino first and then attach it to my Pi. With HDMI, VGA, and
two coax inputs, it is a very versatile little box. It does nearly
everything except audio I might add an audio amp and speakers later.
