Hi,

I've just enabled a feature on my Netgear Stora NAS box
(http://www.netgear.com/home/products/storage/simplesharing/default.aspx) to
allow what the docs call FTPS. FTP is provided by default, but the secure
version is a premium feature.

I'd never used either FTP or FTPS with the device before, because I saw no
need for it. However, I'd now like to have FTP access so that my daughter can
back up her laptop when she's at Uni (she just lost a lot of data when her
hard disc failed).

The trouble is, I can't make anything work.

Here is what the guys at Netgear Support have told me:

> You must enable FTP in Preferences for Internal and External, and ensure you
> are port forwarding port 21.

I believe I've done that. However, my BT Home Hub doesn't allow me to
directly set up the firewall like my old one did. Instead it talks about
'enabling Applications' and it doesn't let me see what ports it has opened or
edit the settings to choose different ones.

I have enabled 'FTP Server' for the Stora, which I presume would default to
port 21.

Netgear Support add:

> When using a client such as FileZilla, enter the host as
> "storaname.mystora.com" (replace storaname with your actual Stora's name).
> To connect using a Secure Connection choose FTP over Explicit SSH (don't
> change the port, leave it at 21).

This is where I get really confused, because when I try to log in, I'm getting
this:

Looking up hadrianwaystora.mystora.com
Trying hadrianwaystora.mystora.com:22
Connected to hadrianwaystora.mystora.com:22
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.3-HipServ
Disconnecting from site hadrianwaystora.mystora.com
Waiting 30 seconds until trying to connect again

This repeats for ever. Would the reference to 'SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_4.3-HipServ'
mean that I now *must* use SSH? I've not enabled that in my client yet. In
any case, I didn't think FTPS was the same as SSH over FTP, but I'm only going
on what I've read on the internet about what FTPS is
(http://winscp.net/eng/docs/ftps).

If I do need to enable SSH, can anyone tell me how to get this working? The
SSH tab in gFTP has three entries:
* The program name.
* SSH Extra Params.
* A check box marked 'Need SSH/User Pass'.

Any thoughts? I presume that Filezilla has the SSH feature built in.
