Interesting thread but why no mention of Kubuntu?
I have been a Kubuntu user since Dapper Drake and I have installed the
Gnome at various times but never taken to Ubuntu on look or feel.
I have just bought a new laptop and partitioned it leaving Windows 7 on one
side and put Kubuntu Oneric on the other, but I never use the Windows
partition as I have found everything works straight out of the box even the
Webcam. I have never ventured away from Kubuntu as I have never needed to,
my family have never been given the option but they also haven't complained.
AutoCAD is the only programme I keep windows for and after using 2012 on
Win 7,(obese software on an obese OS) I am busy learning QCAD.
While I am not sectarian about KDE, Kubuntu or even Linux they have proved
themselves to me (and family of women) as good if not better than the
alternatives.
I am open to a better flavour of Linux though.
