Hi Rafi, > After having made a complete switch to Ubuntu
Is this 17.10? I ask, because some people go for the LTS. > Ridiculous CPU usage with nothing "proper" running: Have an Intel i7 > 8-Thread, sometimes one of the cores, and only one, has a usage of > 100%. I've got the propriatery Intel drivers (although the turn up > under Unknown: Unknown in additional drivers). It seems to be compiz? What makes you say that? > Certain games having difficulty with fullscreen (laggy/can't switch > windows etc.), might just be non'native support. The last game I played on a PC was Lemmings. Though Angband is gently pulling. http://rephial.org/ > Firefox having problems playing HTML5 videos, the larger the player > the laggier it gets, fullscreen is deadly. Firefox 57 here, so yours may vary. Visit about:support and look at the Graphics section. (Actually, peruse all of it for interest.) The Decision Log at the end will tell you what it has decided to use. Check layers.acceleration.force-enabled in about:config. If it's false, the default, then try true. You may have to restart the browser for it to take effect. Examine the Decision Log again, and try a HTML5 video regardless. Note, I think there's the potential for security holes through WebGL before FF 57, and that's why it defaults to false. > Openshot crashing after a few minutes, using v2.4.1. Is that an Ubuntu package? I'm having trouble finding that version tied to a release. Terry's point about an old $HOME and all its settings causing problems is a good one. Create a new `pleb' user and log in as that instead. See if any of the problems "go away".
