Understood... Lets make this a collective effort
then: I _think_ we may still have some power to
write down the NEWS file. So let me start:

- DPMI: improved compatibility with x-32vm, PharLap and dos4gw
DOS extenders (Rebel chess, Transport Tycoon etc no longer crash).
- EMS: implemented a capability to map conventional memory pages.
- Serial: extensive rework, speedup and bugfixing.
[ please fill in the rest here! ]

Then, after the features are outlined, you can find out which
tickets at SF tracker were closed during the appropriate period
of time.

Certainly!
But, what's the use? They won't materialize any time soon.
It is better to do the quick release right here right now than
to wait forever til the goals are acomplished.

I think so. And I'd rather replace "stabilize" with "test".
If there are not too much of a regressions, then there is
nothing to stabilize, but we don't even know if there are the
regressions or not.
Oh, and another important thing is that previously I was
using dosemu on a 32bit PC, and now - on 64bit, which gives
me a lot of regressions because of cpuemu... So, at this point
I think we should ignore even the regressions, except for the
most important and recent ones. The 64bit port is simply not
stable enough right now and the 32bit port is not much in the
use.

Yes, but this was the "last resort", rather than the right thing
to do. The distributors should not package git at a random
point, because it may be unstable. But, as there was no other
choice, they had to. Back then, and now. And the link above
is not even about making a release out of VCS: there were so
called "development releases", which were taken by RedHat,
resulting into this... So the current situation is even worse. :)
