Hello !

Here comes the time of the weekly news letter. It'll be shorter than the
previous one because this time I'll write about the past week only! The
activity is still important in communication, but it's going to shift to
development… Translation are going on.

Cheers, JM.

Team
====

* We welcomed a new contributor for Chinese on TransiFex: Drawing. His nickname
“nagiosfree”.

* No news from the potential Portuguese contributor :(.

Translations
============

* I received fresh PO files for Dutch (Denis) and Chinese (Benheng).

* I figured out that our project timeline page on TransiFex
(http://www.transifex.net/projects/p/doudoulinux/timeline/) does *not* log all
PO file changes…

* Sergey has found fresh Russian translation files for Ktuberling (see
https://gna.org/task/?7294). Please share your recipe in a web page on our site!

* Marian started to translate Kgeography into Romanian. The same: please share
with us!

* Resources website-download and website-squelettes have new messages,
therefore all languages are now below 100% translated except English and French
;). Please check your PO files online on Transifex.

CDROM
=====

* A bug concerning LiveUSB-write should now be fixed in the Russian version
(see https://gna.org/bugs/index.php?17360).

* Another bug concerning doudou-installer is on the way (see
https://gna.org/bugs/?17374).

* The latest Gamine version is buggy on Debian Lenny (and thus on DDL), the
author has been informed. We may then keep the Debian version for next release.

* Discussions have started about the way to backport to DDL the pedagogic
recommendations from TSPU (see https://gna.org/task/?7289).

* Our Debian repository has a new signing key (they are generated for one year
only for security reasons).

Website
=======

* TV Tomsk report is now available with English and French subtitles (see
http://www.doudoulinux.org/web/english/tell-the-world/article/tv-tomsk-report).
If you want to have it subtitled in your language, please send me a translation
and I'll do my best to make the video! You can also try to subtitle it by
yourself but I first need to upload the DV video (400 MB).

* Sergey published a Russian translation of the Linuxaria interview. A brief
news is still required.

* The section dailybuild has moved and now has a file “index.php” file showing
the classical download table of our download section (see
http://download.doudoulinux.org/dailybuild/).

* I added a link to the page of our logo below the visitor map. Translations
for the associated texts are located in the website-squelettes PO file.

Communication
=============

* There was a thread about the name DoudouLinux (see
http://www.doudoulinux.org/web/english/tell-the-world/article/guest-book).
Please never *never* write DoodooLinux to avoid confusion in the USA… If you
search for the song “Doo doo doo da da da” from The Police, you'll see various
orthographies…

* Tolga managed to have his article “5 Linux distros for kids” changed into “6
Linux distros for kids” (see
http://www.brighthub.com/computing/linux/articles/43224.aspx). This is an
important news because googling on “linux kids” gives his page in the very
first page of results.

* Trevor contacted the author of Linux Poison and had an article published on
his site (see
http://linuxpoison.blogspot.com/2011/01/linux-distribution-specially-for.html).
Although published in English, the author is Indian, this may a good
opportunity for us…

* We are on the top of the Linux homepage on 01net Télécharger.com, the
download section of the site (see http://www.01net.com/telecharger/linux/), and
we have a dedicated page (see
http://www.01net.com/telecharger/linux/Kids/fiches/110380.html). They say: «
DoudouLinux, l'environnement informatique pour les enfants » (the computer
environment for children). This is the nbr. one professional IT magazine in
France!

* I published a 3rd article on LinuxFr, the top one online Linux magazine in
French (see http://linuxfr.org/2011/01/14/27773.html). I emphasized the fresh
web page filtering system and our previous communication successes. There
initiated a discussion about misuse of these technologies by politicians…
Certainly an additional source of inspiration for the page I'm preparing about
why using DDL.

* I discovered in our website logs the first Japanese article about us (see
http://distrofreak.seesaa.net/article/180884837.html). It is leading Japanese
visitors to us and one of them already downloaded the tarball of Japanese
translation files. Still good news then!

* I also discovered a new article in China on China Unix, 150,000 visitors/day,
highlighting the news telling Chinese translation has started (see
http://news.chinaunix.net/blog/2011/0115/1191139.shtml).

Support
=======

* We have received 3 request for assistance. Two of them seem to be dead. One
is alive, dealing with sound output on HDMI cables (and thus to have DDL on TV,
just as a gaming console ;) ).
