Subject: [Doudoulinux-dev] DDL newsletter - 2011-12-13

Hello!

This week we can say that our non-profit organization has really been launched!
Many details of its functioning have been explained during the IRC meeting and
participants seemed to be interested in knowing more about it. But this is not
all: you may have noticed that our new development release 2011-11 is out ;).
We also have many ideas on the way concerning communication around our project
and the ARM port is going on, what more do you want?

All the best,
JM.

PS: if you think that I forgot to mention an important news, feel free to
answer this mail with your scoop!

Team
=====

* MirosNik asked to join the Serbian team.
* Dovix asked to join the Hebrew team.
* JuanGa6riel asked to join the Spanish team.
* Garratrans112 asked to create the Gaelic, Scottish team.

Welcome to our project!

Organization
===========

* We had our first meeting about our nascent non-profit organization [1].
Although discussions took part during 2 hours, only half the topics could be
discussed. My feeling is that this was a good meeting with interest from all
the participants :). Fayзal, the association's secretary, will publish a report
soon.

* Fayзal and Xavier are volunteer to start contacting third-party organizations
and try to find funds. The way to present ourselves is to be discussed and will
obviously depend on the target. Anybody interested in this task can join them
of course. Nevertheless I recommend to start modestly and not dissipate our
efforts into launching too many contacts. We also need the help of our drawers
to be able to present eye-candy documents :).

I'd like to thank all the people who arranged to be available for this first
world-wide meeting, taking into account the timezone issue :). We now need to
schedule another meeting, for January.

Translations
============

* Translations were submitted on Transifex for Greek (Kvisitor), Spanish
(Yago) and Russian (Sergey).

Development
===========

* The new development release 2011-11 is out [1]. Nevertheless our website is
not totally up to date :(.

* Gйrald started to write documentation about DDL/ARM on Genesi hardware. He
also had a look at Debian/armhf on Genesi.

* Gйrald initiated a discussion with Genesi about patent/software licenses. It
appears that audio/video codecs should ship apart to avoid liability (letting
the user install them himself shifts the liability). Genesi can also sell us
customized hardware if the order volume is sufficient (for an online shop :) ).

* TBO's bug is harder to solve than expected, this issue is then postponed.
Anyway we still have several months to solve it!

Artwork

No news.

Website
=======

* Pages update has started for 2011-11 [1].

* A news has been published as well [2].

* There were several articles waiting for publication since weeks, I put them
online: “ Официальный ве б-сайт и рабочая версия ”, “ DoudouLinux, o computador
que as crianзas gostam! ”, “ DoudouLinux, o computador que a crianзada gosta! ”.

* New article about IRC meetings [3]. No need to translate it unless you don't
know what else to do (I suspect no!).

* I'm currently discussing with our Chinese contributors in order to have DDL
hosted in China, the CD's first, then maybe the website too.

Communication
=============

* Oh yes, we're on DistroWatch homepage again :p. New visitors, new
contributors!

* Xavier started to prepare the FOSDEM event, although we won't know if our
project is accepted before a week. He's looking at supplying computers and
screens, as well as bringing promotion supports. Again help from our drawers
will be deeply appreciated ;).

* Xavier proposed to write an article for a French speaking (paper) magazine
(Linux magazine?). The idea is interesting since articles are paid in these
magazines, depending on the license we give to the article. Elisa wrote several
articles for these magazines in the past and proposed to carry this job. The
payment will fund our new association :). Don't hesitate to imitate them in
your language and country!

* Oleg uses this newsletter to feed our Google+ account [1], which is a good
idea. Who to do this for Diaspora/Facebook?

* I invite all our active contributors to post on our dev's blog [2]. This is a
good way to make people speak of us because our blog is published on Planet
Debian Derivatives. I suspect this is the reason why some Canonical folks
recently talked about us on Google+ :). Currently Gaurav, Gйrald and I have an
account. Just ask me yours and I'll create it! Don't be shy, your English can
be proofread before publication :p.

* I recall that Salvatore launched the translation of our Wikipedia article
into English [3]. The idea is to split the effort among several translators who
understand Latin languages. Unfortunately we're still lacking of volunteers :(.

Support
=======

* A user reported issues with audio in Gondwana [1](French), that are solved
with 2011-11. He came across several bugs while installing 2011-11 [1][2].

* Another user had an issue with Intel video detection [3](French). He got a
black screen :(.
