You can change the appearance by creating a copy of search.htm called localsearch.css and then editing that. (You ought to make sure you have an up to date version of DQSD.) Of course, you can change anything you want by changing search.htm, but that's really supposed to be the engine room, and any changes you make would be overwritten by an upgrade. What do you mean by 'shallower'?
