FWIW - I was never been able to get the win-s thing to work.. I never really bothered me because I never use it..and I thought I must be mis-understanding what was supposed to happen.. One day I tried to get it working and couldn't... Oddly it works now since my machine cratered and I had to install the OS from scratch...
Somewhere along the way - in the OS updates etc. the function was broken... My machine is setup the same way now that it was before the crash.. I am running the same apps etc..
