Oops, I thought we were talking about the four bolts to the leg, not the
axle bolt - it should thread all the way by hand - I would check the pitch
with some gauges as already suggested.

  Wheel hold down nuts on aircraft are castlelated w/ an 1/8 cotter pin
through
the axles. Tighten the nut until there is a preload on the wheel bearing and
then
back off to the next  castlelation that lines up. ( old rule of thumb from

)
