<partly taken from the melee in the inn...> "and the angel closes her eyes...lightning crashes..."
If that messenger carrying Brin Winter's message to Rue Denali had instructions to deliver the message only to Rue, that messenger would likely send word back to Brin that he could not find Rue in Brookshire. And if handed over to a reliable source within the Brookshire Guard, Evin for example, Brin's scroll would sit unread upon the captain's desk for quite some time to come, even though Rue likely would have replied to such an emotional writing from Brin immediately. His last known whereabouts were assisting in a search party for a lost boy and returning with Priestess and Innkeeper Khelti Delah to the DragonMyst Inn to find it overrun with a murderous gang. His horse remained stabled inside the barn. After staking the place out, only members of the Wyvern Gang had seen Rue enter the kitchen door of the Inn. And they hadn't just let him waltz right in either. So it was that Rue's legs buckled from under him and he sunk along the well packed dirt and wooden stairs of the DragonMyst Inn's root cellar as yet another bolt slammed into his body. In addition to second bolt still sticking out between his ribs and the gushing wound above his collarbone from the first bolt that he'd yanked out, this final bolt lodged deep into his thigh. He heard another bolt whiz by his ear and land in the wood of the splintered door as he lost his balance. Rue's 6'2 frame was soon slipping down the rail-less stairwell, and one of the last moments he remembered was trying to hold the short sword outstretched as gravity took over and his feet went out ahead of him. He would not be found impaled upon his own bloody sword lest they all surmise the Brookshire Division, Royal Guard Captain could no longer handle things and killed himself. Hell no. With all he'd done, he wouldn't further disgrace his unborn children with that. Perhaps with the grace of gods and any good luck watching over the man, Rue hoped to take out one of the Wyvern Gang with the blade as his own life seemed to be nearing its end. But he blacked out quickly, partly aided in weakness by the previous sleepless night spent searching the frozen woods. He would not know if Lilla and Nikan were in the root cellar or if anyone would even survive this battle between the nasty Wyvern Gang and the strong group assembled by chance and fate to take back the Inn. Rue's fallen body became an opportunity. Four gang members left the cellar a few seconds later, carrying the unconscious guardsman whose sweater insignia indicted his rank and division (his jacket and cloak were tucked away between the bales of hay in the inn's barn). Maybe they thought it'd be fun to torture such a ranking member of the enemy? Maybe he meant something more to them? Did Denali play a double-sided coin perhaps? Blackmailing? Time would tell, if he did survive. Two mercenaries stayed behind in the cellar as the others departed with Denali's severely wounded body by the back door and made it safely away into the darkness. Meanwhile the fighting with the Wyvern Gang members at the Inn continued in full bloody blazing glory... -- To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives & Other DMI Lists: http://www.dragonmyst.f2s.com/lists.php3
