DA: "Good evening, Grubball fans. Along with
Westin Tarbral, I am Dern Arnak and welcome to Grubball Tonight. Big news
around the league both on the field and behind the scenes, including the
restructuring of the AGL postseason and a battle of undefeated teams in the city
on the Darian. Let's start out with some scores from around the
league. In Ruthmarna, Angelsin in town for the night, trying to move up a
bit in the standings. The contest wasn't much of one, Ruthmarna dominating
pretty much from the start. Roxina the Vague ended the game with 27
kills. Ware the Brown scored twice and Del Nege, total points leader of
the team now, along with Saemon with 12 on the year, had one point and two
assists in the contest. Ruthmarna United the winner by a final count of
6-2.
DA: "In Arankeep, the Keepers seeming to have
turned the season around to an extent since the tragic loss of Branth
Perlegi. Part of that reason was the replacement signing of Goren the
Sly. Tonight, the fox was about, involved in two of the scores for
Arankeep, having one point and one assist. Elythan had the other two
helpers on the night and the Keepers move to just a half-game below .500 with
the win tonight, defeating Sivriana in 6 quintings by a score of 3-2. Tul
with Fists of Steel had 33 kills, second only to Sivriana's Tavin Kellek who had
39.
DA: "Tagrana Memorial against Bralk Lakrath.
Having had the past week or so off from playing, Tagrana was fully rested coming
into this game and it showed as they scored on their first two chances, giving
them a lead that they would never relinquish. Tagrana Memorial gets their
first win of the year, leaving only Peraltok Valley winless in this 472
season. Gros Multer had a team high 36 kills for Tagrana and Fenduth the
Freak "on a Leash" had two points and one assist. Marnuth the Regular had
the lone point for Bralk Lakrath who falls to a dismal 2-6 on the year.
The final, Tagrana wins 5-1.
DA: "Moving on into the Valley. Tagrana got
their first win of the year and Peraltok Valley was looking to keep relative
pace with that. Enter Gessihorna, coming in with a meager 2-5 record on
the year and the table appeared to be set for the slight upset. Moreso
when Bralk Sarktuka scored early in the first quinting and had his lone assist
just before the end of the period. However, quintings 2-5 belonged to the
visitors and Gessi came back hitting hard. Dilminth's Son scored two
points, both in the third quinting. Metzen the Mighty finished the game
with 28 kills and Gessihorna wins by a score of 5-3.
DA: "Fenduth the "People Are" Strange had 32 kills
and Ventzi Tarken scored the game-winner for the Korthai as they defeat
Tralazir, 4-2. Eld the Leaky had 24 kills on the night, and Protzl Noght
scored once in a losing effort. In Molentia Circle, Anika Conrad had one
point and one assist, Dornil Sankland had two assists and Ware the Vile had 31
kills as MystHaven keeps pace among the upper echelon of the league, defeating
Sweet Milly 4-1.
DA: "Now, to the city by the Darian..the city of
Drache where a battle of undefeated teams would commence. Enter the Dire
Sheep of the Vale, only a tie with Arankeep earlier in the year marring an
otherwise would-be perfect record. Drache, 6-0 on the year and coming off
a free night, giving them a bit more rest and time to prepare. To say this
game was a nailbiter was an understatement. Drache fans were held in
suspense throughout the night and once again, Kota the Wolf was the key to the
win in this game. He let only one Valeman get past him throughout the
entire night, but until the very end, that lone point looked to be the deciding
factor. Still, big players make big plays when the game is on the line and
it was seasoned veteran Quarth who steamrolled through three defensemen to put
the ball in center circle once again, giving the Dracheans a tie just as time
would expire.
DA: "They would go to the extra quinting and to say
that the forschbowling on either side was spectacular is a *gross*
understatement. Both players earned their keep tonight, though it was Kota
the Wolf with an AGL record 18 kills in the extra period, most by any player in
a single quinting, let alone overtime. The game looked destined to end in
a tie as Lor the Inbred seemed equal to the task of his adversary
until..Kenglith the Mingit. Drawing three defenders towards him after
slipping past Lor the Inbred in the Vale circle, seeming to be in line for a
journey to center circle and a Drache win and when one person was guarded by
more than one opposing player, it left others open. Tonight, that other
was Tiburon Xativa-Lathvek who caught the pass in a dive, slightly overthrown by
the Mingit, but caught nonetheless and Drache wins in heart-stopping fashion,
2-1. Brozlin the Dirty scored the lone point for the Valemen. Kota
the Wolf finished the game with 49 kills, a new career high for him although it
took nearly six full quintings to accomplish the feat. Drache still sits
atop the league with a record of 7-0, looking ahead to another clash in Hornath
ul-Marfed, who had tonight off. Westin, who is going to stop this Drache
team? Is it going to take Menxvan himself to do it?"
WT: "Well, that certainly wouldn't hurt to have him
on your side, though at this point, he'd likely side with the Dracheans.
Defense wins championships and after a shaky first couple games, Drache's
defense has simply been stellar giving up only four points in the past four
games. In that time, Kota has 146 kills. I am still in awe at the
numbers he's putting up, though that will decrease once the rest of the team
steps up and takes command. If that happens, I don't see many teams at all
that will be able to keep up. Looking ahead to the game this Friday in
Hornath and one can only wonder as really, the Hornathians look to be the only
team right now, that can keep up. Perhaps MystHaven, but Drache already
beat them early on and they won't play for a while yet. No team has ever
gone an entire season without a win and only one team, the 459 Hornath ul-Marfed
team finished with 2 or less losses. Their record in the shorter season
was 18-2. At best, I can foresee 4 possible losses for this Drache
team. I really don't see anyone else competing. It's not a matter of
Drache having to outscore a team, and you see tonight, Quarth and Tiburon with
the points...they're not the scorers of the team. As you said, big players
make big plays and the flipside is true as well...big plays make big
players. We saw that tonight and I expect that we'll see it the rest of
the year."
DA: "Who will defeat those Dracheans on the
field? Rest assured, it will not be me. Now, to the other big news
of the past week. The expansion of the AGL postseason. The playoffs
will now include the top eight teams in the standings. There was rumor of
restructuring, but that will not come until next season. So, the top eight
teams at the end of the year will be seeded and the games will begin.
After the first round, the remaining teams will be seeded again according to
regular season record, which makes it more difficult for those lower-placed
teams to win, but not impossible. If anything, it makes the results more
accurate as it puts them against the best of the league throughout the
playoffs. Westin, good or bad?"
WT: "Dern, this is great for Arangothian
grubball. As we discussed earlier, it gives the teams more to fight
for. Not only are a couple teams fighting for the top spots, but now there
are six other teams that will be added to the postseason. All of those
teams will continue to jockey for position and postseason seedings. Now,
you let teams like Arankeep, Gessihorna, Ruthmarna United..teams notorious for
being close but not close enough. They now have a chance to get there and
prove what they can do. I think that this is a great change, and I look
forward to seeing the battles continue throughout the season as now, no game is
really meaningless from here on out."
DA: "There you have it, folks. A busy night
both on the field and off lately. Friday night, more games to come, a bit
different from the Wednesday norm. For Westin Tarbral, I am Dern Arnak
bidding you all a grubball evening. Good night, folks."
