The R-4B still has the OB2 regulator. The R-4C uses a solid state
regulator, in keeping with Drake's transition from tubes to solid state devices.
You will note the significant reduction of the number of tubes in the C
series.
Removing tubes in the design reduced energy needed, cut down on heating
problems, and increased reliability.
