The original Drake FA-7 was a Comair/Rotron "Sprite" model SU2C1......

It runs at 1900rpm, producing 20cfm, and a "noise rating" of 26.2dba (VERY
quiet!)
You can buy them BRAND NEW, from many electronic supply houses, such as
Digi-Key....for about $28.00 with the AC power cord already attached...

AND, I've seen them at hamfests, "used, but working" for about $3 to $4.....

12VDC fans are much more available surplus (cheap) these days thanks to computers. Some are quiet, some are not. Running a noisy one on less than 12V cuts the noise considerably.
The TR-7 doesn't need a LOT of air, just something to _EXTRACT_ warm air from
the heatsink and push it away from the radio.

I ran my TR7 from a PS7 for the first time today and the fan that's on the TR7 makes too much noise (it's not the Drake fan). Has anyone found a relatively quiet fan? I suppose I could always install a 12V fan and then slow it down as required, but maybe there's a quiet AC fan available?
