Actually I would suspect the element rather than the transformer. If you still believe that it is the transformer, check some of the older CB microphones which utilized a Lo-Z element and a matching transformer to match the Hi-Z input of some of the rigs.
Microphone elements can be had from RatShack. Maybe not original, but some microphone elements found in their most inexpensive microphones will do...Most of the microphones in this class are molded or cast plastic, so you might have to crunch or break the unit open to get at the element.

My Drake Model 7077 mic just died. I checked the cable and it is okay. It looks like either the mic element or the high impedence matching transformer is to blame. If I had to guess I would pick the transformer.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement audio matching transformer for the mic?
Radio Shack sells (or used to sell) audio matching transformers but if my memory serves me right, the Radio Shack transformers match 8 to 600 ohms -- NOT a high impdence mic like the 7077.
