Bill,
Losing a pass transistor wouldn't cause the problem you describe. Losing
the 723 regulator could cause this, since it would allow the full dc voltage
available to to through the pass transistors. I would sure substitute the
723 with a new one if you have one. Radio Shack used to carry them, but not
sure they still do. Mouser will have them if not. Good luck, and join the
crew of us that have done one of these mistakes over the years, hi.
