Floyd Sense <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang

Interesting comment. I had planned to look at the transmitted signal
with my Icom 781 scope as well as tune across it with the 250 Hz filters
to see if I could spot any funny stuff close in that way.
Unfortunately, my TR-7 key clicks mask anything that might be coming
from the VFO, and that's true using the PTO as well. Never saw any
discussion of key clicks on the TR-7 and wonder if I might have a
problem there with my TR-7. The ALC is properly adjusted and the
carrier control was set below the point where the ALC light came on.
Output was something over 100 watts. Do you know of any common key
click problems with the TR-7?
I was monitoring the TR-7 operating into a dummy load, with my Icom 765
with no antenna nearby. When I do that with my 781 as the transmitter,
the received signal which is 20 over 9 at the transmitter frequency
drops to S1 only 1.03 KHz away. With the TR-7 as transmitter, the S1
point moves out to 2.41 KHz. The clicks are very audible in the
receiver, of course.

This unit might be OK for receive, but I'd be reluctant to use it to
transmit based on spectral purity (or rather impurity) of the 9851 DDS
chips.
See

for excellent data on the 9851 and the far superior 9951.
