The Drake gear was all smooth enamel until late in the B series.
A good repaint is Rustoleum 7777 "Satin Black", available at most
hardware/home improvement outlets. Some prefer Krylon #1613, but I
think the 7777 is closer to the original.

This results in an excellent paint job.
*A "good" job can be done with careful sanding of the original paint if
it isn't too bad, no deep scratches, dents, etc.; cleaning of the
surface with denatured alcohol (NO rubbing alcohol!), and a couple of
coats of 7777.
