I have the noise blanker in my R-4C and I find it very effective for certain types of electrical noise. It does nothing for atmospheric noise but, somewhere in my neighborhood, is a noise generator that is very intermittent. The noise blanker knocks it down by two and a half S-units whenever it appears. It's pretty impressive. Unfortunately, the noise is so intermittent that I have no clue what it is or where it is. It comes on a few times per month and usually lasts for less than an hour. (Well, probably more often -- I'm not on the air 24x7.)
