Having used the noise blankers in the R4C, TR-7, TR-7A, R-7, and R-7A, I can say that they were not intended to suppress atomospheric noise, QRM, etc. and do not in fact do so. They were, however, intended to reduce the effect of pulse type ignition noise from cars, lawn mowers, etc. but fortunately, I am relatively free of these. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Fri, 11 May 2007 1:31 PM Subject: RE: [drakelist] Noise Blanker discussion
"David & Chris Drake" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterance to the drakelist gang ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all, I would like to start a thread regarding the various noise blankers Drake produced over the years. I think I've had most of them. One in a TR6, R4C and a TR7A. Never put one in my Tr4C since I never found them usefull. The TR7a has one, and I never use it. I have to say, I never found any of them to be of much use, if any. Most of these are/were designed for pulse type noises, which, depending on your location and application may or may not be needed. These blankers usually sell for a lot of money or Epay, and seem to be coveted items to many. Practically speaking.....Are they worth it? And,...outside of mobile operating, what noises are they effective? Someone also may wish to discuss other noise reduction alternatives such as the ANEM which el34guy mentioned. Thanks to all for your anticipated responses !!
