Hi Jim, The rig and any tuner or other thing associated with it should be grounded at the rig location. Even if the generator is grounded (it was, I hope) you should still have a good ground at the rig. I used my SP-75 this year and for the last 4 and had no problems.
The one problem I did have was on several bands, the rig (TR-7) would shut down when I was tuning up near full power. I discovered last year that the problem appeared to be that when the rig was fully loaded, the line voltage would drop to 115V and the rig doesn't like that very much. At the end of a 50' piece of #12 there is about a 10 volt drop from the generator. Jacking up the output at the generator brought the loaded line voltage at the rig to 122V and it likes that fine, but the clocks go crazy! This being a WW II generator, 60~ is concurrent with 115V output. When you speed it up for higher voltage, the frequency goes up with the generator speed and the "hysterical stinkronus" clock motors like their 60~ input. Ah, the pleasures of field day! 73, John, W4AWM ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
