I think the Drake guys used a pencil (you remember, those yellow wooden
sticks with a pink rubber tip?) eraser to clean the male contact pins.
They are that "tin-plate" finish that grows a rough, gray corrosion.
DeoxIT will help, but a good cleaning with an eraser first does a better
job.
The Cinch-Jones connectors have always been pretty reliable and long
lasting. Many of the commercial two-way radio manufacturers used them,
and they seem to maintain good contact tension for a LONG time. Cinch
offered a spring locking mechanism for all the lines, but they're not
easily disconnected, especially in tight quarters.
I don't recall ever having one "fail", but it's certainly a good idea to
make sure that the heavy multiconductor power cable is not hanging from
the connector.

Deoxit (from Radio Shack) helped...
An old Swan 500cx would not power up initially
and the problem was traced to badly oxidized
pins and receptacles on a 15 pin Jones connector
that supplied AC, and routed other connections in
the power supply.
I know folks have had problems with Drake gear and
intermittant Jones connectors causing final tube
damage.
The Jones pins in this case still look dull but the
filaments now light and the receiver springs to life
after Deoxit was sprayed on the Jones pins. The stuff
also gets wiped into the receptacles as the power
cable is connected.
I wouldn't try transmitting without
changing both the 15 pin Jones plug and receptacle
because the pins still seem loose and look dull.
