This indicates that the Lo Band VCO (up through 20M) is unlocked. If you change the Bandswitch to 15M, the Hi Band VCO takes over and will show about 35 MHz if unlocked.

In either (or both) case(s), if board reseating doesn't fix the problem, it will probably take an alignment to fix it. The Lo Band VCO is actually "free-running" a little high, and so may be on the edge of locking. If so, just adjusting L501 per the Service Manual "might" fix it. The TR-7 is a very complex piece of equipment, and if you're not comfortable working on it there are several guys that do excellent repair work at reasonable prices. A couple of them are listed at

My TR-7 won't lock onto frequency with the internal VFO selected. The only way it will work is off the R-7 VFO. The frequency readout shows about 17900 Khz until you go to the R-7 VFO, then it locks on OK. At first I could correct this problem by reseating boards but now that has no effect. Reseating the boards only corrected the problem for a little while then it would go out again. Can anyone offer any suggestions about where to look for this problem. The only way it will work now is off the R-7 VFO. I would appreciate any help you can offer.

                   Thanks and 73,
