Philip -

I've had good success for the "smooth" cabinet finish with Rustoleum #7777 "Satin Black". The later cabinets were powder coated, which is an entirely different finish. The "color" is ok, but the "spatter" effect is a little harder to replicate. There are techniques to "modify" the spray head to simulate the spatter effect, but this can become a hobby in itself! I guess the question is if you want to make them look good, or try to replicate the "original" finish. If "original" restoration is your goal, Drake's original contractor, Hartzell Manufacturing, will powder coat cabinets for a price. Last time I checked, it was $25 per piece (two pieces per cabinet), plus $25 per order shipping and handling.

*I recall seeing on Drakelist several months ago a recommended Drake cabinet paint alternative to the original (close enough) manufacturer's color (black). I believe it was a Rust-Oleum brand spray paint. The paint's stock number was also provided. Does anyone have info. on this? Thank you.* ** *W8PSG*
