Yes, by all means draw the heat away. I was lucky enough to find a 115V AC
muffin fan and just put it into the power strip. I like Bob's 12 V into a
24 V for slower motion. It really does not take much movement to do the
job.
Although I have not tried it, you could probably put the fan on the side or
back to draw away the air, but improving natural convection seems more
intuitive. Let's face it, these rigs have been used for decades w/o fans
and survived! Making them more comfortable in old-age seems appropriate :>)

That is what I do. I use a 24VDC computer fan and run it at 12VDC.
Effective and quiet. Be sure to have it blow upward.

Use a small, low CF/min "muffin Fan" from a
computer; put some rubber pads
on it so that it will exhaust upward and set the fan on top
of the cabinet above
