Lee -

Yes, it would be using the Product Detector and so you would be using "exalted carrier" for AM. I made the (rash?!) assumption that you would put the narrower filter in the CW spot to use during difficult conditions where exalted carrier would be an advantage.

The Third Mixer LO is also switched for AM to center the passband of the 50 kHz IF.......

Most likely will not be satisfactory. If you're going to use exalted carrier anyway, you might as well use the SSB filter at 2.1 to get the full advantage.

Thanks for pointing out my error(s)!! :-) That's what I get for thinking too early in the morning!

Won't it be using the wrong detector? How about the BFO being on?
Of course you could use exaled carrier method of reception....73,

Tim - I've never tried it, but it should work, sorta.... :-) The AM filter position has three resistors to match the filter impedance, (apparently different than the CW/SSB filters?,) and most likely to increase the insertion loss so that the output level stays approximately the same when switching between the two types of filters. So just plugging in the filter may work, but the passband may be distorted and the output may increase considerably when switching to AM. It certainly won't hurt anything to try. I would say try just plugging it in, and let us know the results! 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line & TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs <www.k4oah.com <http://www.k4oah.com/>> amfone wrote: > Hello > > > I have and R4C.
