After reading Max's inquiry this morning (PST) I've been stewing on what
my 2 cents would be. But Jim said it all.

Back in '82 I sold my C line to finance my 7 line purchase. I still have
the 7 line and wouldn't give it up for any rig now offered (or offered in
the past; I sold my KWM-2A to finance the C line, without any subsequent
regrets). The 7 line still is a perfect station for me; it has met all my
needs for 28 years.

That said, I miss the C line and have always been sorry I let it go, and
for all the reasons that Jim mentioned.

I would also support the comments that both rigs are rugged and easy to
maintain. For involved repairs on the 7 line, you'll need the extender
boards, but in 28 years, I've never had to use my set of boards (if anyone
wants
and original set of Drake TR-7 boards, in their original unopened box. .
.talk to my widow, hi). Both rigs are straight forward to align. The TR-7
also has its flaky DR-7 display issue, but the well known fix of simply
pulling the board and reseating it, makes it a non-issue.

So my advise? Figure out how you can hold on to the C line and still get
the 7 line, then decide for yourself which suits your operating style and
need.
